Introducing Minnikin; five guys from Durham (UK) bringing forth a mixture of melodic hard rock and grunge combined with unique lyrical backgrounds which offer a new and exciting sound. “Right out of the box you will notice that Minnikin have something.” (P. Sinclair, Komodo Rock) Thunderous drums, chunky guitars, pounding bass, cut-through vocals and ethereal layered harmonies are only just a few ways to describe the sound experience. From acoustic ballads to kick-ass rock epics they offer pure listening enjoyment and an exciting live performance.
From 2004, Minnikin have been progressing dramatically as fine young musicians to produce music that is true to themselves. This is very apparent upon listening to the bands debut album ‘Europa’ which keeps driving through relentlessly like a runaway freight train. Minnikin are currently promoting the album at live shows and making a following on the web, and so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Minnikin have held #1 spot on AudioStreet.net for 7 days with ‘Thousand Apologies’ as well as featured on national television. Minnikin produced their own demo in 2006 and independently sold over 100 copies over just a few shows, only through generating a vast interest from audiences. Following this success, they now have produced their own album, Europa, which sold 150 copies in the first week.
Most recently, Minnikin performed for Channel4 in London as part of Orange unsignedAct ’08 on national television stations Channel 4 and E4 with Alex Zane, Lauren Laverne, Alex James, Simon Gavin and Kelly Osbourne.
Minnikin is the result of a project of forming a band with only the select young musicians from the north-east of England. Glenn Minnikin through the years has developed profound recording and production skills similar to that of a professional working studio. This has enabled them to produce a release-quality record for Minnikin, ‘Europa’. Vocalist Richard ‘Dox’ Docherty (Live & Unsigned 2008 Finalist) is involved with the Prince’s Trust, volunteering his services as a musician to help guide young people to a successful career path in music. Drummer Ben Mummery has always been a permanent fixture in the local music scene, promoting local artists as well as himself by adapting to many styles of music. In 2009, Minnikin welcomed two guitarists to improve the chemistry and energy in the team. Guitarist Ian Richardson has a vast applied knowledge of all kinds of music, and is currently finishing a BMus degree in Jazz and Pop Music. Micky Crystal lives and breathes guitar, playing with many local musicians and covering other styles of music and guitar playing such as Country and Fusion. Minnikin became part of Orbit 22 Entertainment Ltd. in 2009.
Minnikin’s main career goal is to develop what they have achieved so far and produce an act like no other. They have very firm ground to accomplish a high status in the industry, and to retain the determination to carry this out and overcome the most difficult of obstacles. From the sheer power of the song writing to the epic live shows, Minnikin have what it takes to become an incredible feature act in the ever changing rock industry.
